ABOUT HALD
Hald Hovedgaard, a manor house built in the 18th century is now the home of the Danish Centre for Writers and Translators, whose primary function is to host Danish authors and translators for work retreats.
The Hald manor is situated in its own French-style park, ten kilometres outside Viborg, one of the oldest towns in Denmark, founded by Vikings in the 8th century. The unusually beautiful surroundings include Hald Lake, the hills of Dollerup Bakker and the ancient Hald Oak Forest. The Danish Centre for Writers and Translators is a self-governing institution receiving economic support from the Danish state and the council of Viborg.

The way to Hald
Hald Hovedgaard and the town of Viborg are situated in the middle of Denmark, in mid-Jutland, the peninsula that protrudes out of northern Germany.
The distance to the Danish capital of Copenhagen is about 350 km. (approx. 230 miles), a trip that takes 3½ - 4 hours by car, or about 4½ hours (from Viborg station) by train.
Karup Airport (both domestic and international) lies 20 km. from Hald. If one flies to Copenhagen from abroad, the connecting flight to Karup is often quite inexpensive. From Karup one can take a taxi or a so-called limousine taxi (where several people share the fare) straight to Hald Hovedgaard’s front door.
Transportation to Viborg is provided either by city bus #712 that stops in front of Hald (weekdays only), or by motor coach #53 (every day), that drops you off on Herningvej, 500 metres from Hald.
