Selected Writers Announced for Hald Retreat This Month

With about sixty applications the interest for the Danish-American Writers’ Retreat was large.

Out of over sixty applications, the Danish Writers’ Retreat committee—Nathaniel Rich, senior editor at The Paris Review, the Danish web-based literary event calendar Litlive.dk, and The Danish Centre for Writers and Translators—has selected five American writers and five Danish writers to meet at Hald Hovedgaard for a week at the end of May.

The writers will work during the day on the projects that they have brought along, but will meet at dinner to join in conversation and a free exchange of ideas.

THE AMERICAN WRITERS ARE:
Anselm Berrigan is a poet and teacher, and the artistic director of the St. Mark's Poetry Project. He is the author of three books of poetry published by Edge Books, the most recent of which is Some Notes on My Programming (2006), and co-editor of The Collected Poems of Ted Berrigan

David Ebershoff is the author of the bestselling and award-winning novels, Pasadena and The Danish Girl, which has been translated into Danish (Den danske pige, Viva 1999), and the short story collection, The Rose City. His fiction has been published in more than a dozen countries to critical acclaim. He also serves as an editor-at-large at Random House.

Dinaw Mengestu's debut novel is The Beautiful Things That Heaven Bears. He has written for such magazines as Harper's and Rolling Stone.

Sarah Houghteling's debut novel, Pictures at an Exhibition, will be published by Knopf in 2008.

Stacey D'Erasmo is a novelist whose works include Tea, which was selected as a New York Times Notable Book. Her essays and criticism have appeared in the New York Times Book Review, The New York Times Magazine, and Ploughshares.

THE DANISH WRITERS ARE:
Carsten Rene Nielsen has published eight collections of poetry, including Mekaniker elsker maskinsyerske (1989) and Enogfyrre dyr (2005). In 1999 he was awarded a three-year grant from the State Foundation for the Arts. His website is: www.carstenrenenielsen.dk/english

Dy Plambeck’s debut collection of poetry Buresøfortællinger (2005) won the Klaus Rifbjerg award and a three-year grant from the State Foundation for the Arts.

Lis Vibeke Kristensen is the author of numerous collections of short stories and novels, including the recent Chokoladedøden (2006). Her books are translated into German, Norwegian and Swedish.

Mads Nygaard’s first novel was Koalaens kærlighed (2000), and his fourth novel, Kravl, was published last year. In addition to his fiction, he has written radio drama for the Danish Broadcasting Corporation.

Maja Lucas is the author of the story collection Jegfortællinger (2007), and has published poetry and prose in a number of Danish literary magazines. She is a former editor of the literary magazine Apparatur and teaches at the University of Southern Denmark.

Flot forfatterhold til Writers' Retreat på Hald

Med omkring 60 ansøgere har der været stor interesse for det dansk-amerikanske Writers' Retreat

Ud af tres ansøgninger har gruppen bag det dansk-amerikanske Writers' Retreat - Nathaniel Rich, senior editor ved det amerikanske litteraturtidsskrift The Paris Review, den danske web-baserede litteraturkalender mmm. litlive.dk og Det Danske Forfatter- og Oversættercenter - nu udvalgt fem amerikanske forfattere og fem danske forfattere, som mødes på Hald Hovedgaard i en uge i slutningen af maj.

Forfatterne vil i dagtimerne arbejde på de projekter, de har med sig, og vil mødes ved måltiderne i uformel samtale og udveksling af idéer.

DE DANSKE FORFATTERE ER:

Dy Plambeck – debuterede med digtsamlingen Buresøfortællinger (2005), der bl.a. indbragte hende Klaus Rifbjergs Debutantpris og Statens Kunstfonds 3-årige arbejdslegat.

Maja Lucas – har udover debuten Jegfortællinger (2007), bidraget med digte og prosa til en lang række tidsskrifter. Tidligere redaktør af litteratur- og kulturtidsskriftet Apparatur.

Mads Nygaard – debuterede med romanen Koalaens kærlighed (2000) og har senest udgivet sin fjerde roman Kravl (2006). Har også skrevet radioteater for DR-drama.

FRA USA MEDVIRKER
